"The Snidely Shuffle," track ten from "Out of Darkness," is a jazz shuffle with a funny story for a funny name. I had no title after creating the piece. So after my first rough mix, I listened to it as I was falling asleep. Wow, funny things happen sometimes when you're on pain meds! I began to dream (?) about a man in a tall top hat comically dancing around a ballroom with a bit of a sneer on his face.

It was so funny to me that I woke up with the image forever linked to the song in my mind. The man in the dream reminded me of Snidely Whiplash (people my age will remember him), so I originally named the song, "The Snidely Whiplash Ballroom Shuffle." I just love that title! However, for the sake of expediency, I abbreviated it to The Snidely Shuffle.

I had never played a jazz shuffle on the drums, and this was incredibly challenging to me; I don't think I'll attempt it again. My hats off to players who can do this well and easily!
